I have been wanting to prep my yard for doing permaculture type gardening. But the snails and slugs here are so darned rampant. They eat everything! Even my onions...which I thought they didn't like. So I have been trying to figure out how to get rid of them. Glenhaven won't allow us to have chickens or ducks, so can't turn the slugs into eggs. We used to have toads/frogs up and down the ditches in the roads. Well, we did when I first moved in a few years ago. But the neighborhood kids kept catching and inadvertently killing them. And the kids and other people keep dumping nasty stuff into the ditches. No more froggies/toadies in this neighborhood. Last year I saw a garden snake move into one of our stumps. I got really excited...which attracted a visiting neighbor kid. I stupidly showed him the snake. Then he started talking about catching it. I begged him not to, but he didn't seem to care that the snake might eat some of the slugs, he'd rather have a pet snake. *sigh* i'm not sure yet if the snake is still there or not. I'm considering building a 'snake home' in my yard. But I'm not really sure how to go about it, nor where to put it. Does anyone have any ideas?
